Which links exist between Distribution and Dematerialization? When natural limits are discussed on the basis of biophysical assessments, the importance of distribution will immediately become evident: (a) Conflicts relating to the economic (personal, regional) distribution will appear on the way to and within a dematerialized economy. Hence, strategies to solve distributional conflicts and to smoothe regressive effects are essential. (b) What consequences of ecological sustainable policy will arise for the poor (who have limited possibilities to use natural resources)? How can it be prevented that only the rich own property rights on environmental resources? (c) Contrary, what are the effects of distribution on economic development? (d) Additionally, there are important effects of distribution on resource consumption: Does greater inequality stimulate resource consumption? Are there links between redistribution and the use of environmental space? |
