SERI has released a joint statement with OEKOBUERO, an alliance of 16 Austrian environmental organisations, and the Economy for the Common Good (ECG) concerning the incorporation of obligatory non-financial reporting for companies with more than 500 employees into Austrian legislation by December 2016 (following respective EU directives).

All three organisations feel that this presents an opportunity to position Austria as a pioneering country in terms of sustainability. However, this would require more ambitious action than proposed in the EU’s comperatively vague guidlines, including compulsory reporting for large enterprises by EU definition (from 250 employees), clearer standards for reporting and sanctions for failures to comply.
