On behalf of the Upper Austrian state government SERI in cooperation with the Institute of Economic Structures Research (GWS) calculated the economic effects of a European-wide nuclear power phase out. The results indicate that combining a gradual phase-out until 2050 combined with ambitious sustainability policies would have a positive impact on all relevant economic indicators and climate protection. Even countries that are currently heavily relying on nuclear power (such as France or the Czech Repuplic) would see positive economic outcomes overall.

The results of the study were presented by Fritz Hinterberger at a press conference on 20 September initiated by State Minister for the Environment Rudolf Anschober to present Upper Austria’s new initiative for a European-wide nuclear power phase-out.
